The OPC a Southern Church?

Actually, there may be more to that notion than you think. Check out the discussion over at Christ the Center on the history of Presbyterianism in America.

It is clear to me that Thornwell in his debate with Hodge has won the day in the OPC today, whereas the PCA seems more Hodgean. Ironic? Perhaps not if we consider the fact that the founder of the OPC was himself a Southerner!

You can read more about it in Dr. Hart and John Muether’s book, Seeking A Better Country.

I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naïve. (Romans 16:17-18)
