Theology and Secular Psychology

Westminster Theological Seminary is blowing the top off iTunesU – a section of the iTunes Store that offers free courses and downloads from institutions of higher education.  If you have not visited their page, you must simply have the  iTunes software installed and click this link.  Westminster has just published David Powlison’s phenomenal course Theology and Secular Psychology, in which Dr. Powlison presents a thoroughly biblical [even Van Tilian] way to think through the problems addressed and caused by secular psychology.  If you are unfamiliar with the CCEF and Westminster approach to biblical counseling, this course will completely reorient your thinking.  It’s another example of a rigorously biblical approach to a discipline highly influence by secular thought.

  1. I realize recommending works by R.J. Rushdoony, unfortunately, makes you look like some kind of kook in most current Reformed circles but I highly recommend reading and at least taking a look at his work “Revolt Against Maturity” where he dealt with this issue.

I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naïve. (Romans 16:17-18)
