The Heart of the Gospel

Given the constant discussion regarding the core of the gospel, I thought I’d pass on another perspective on what the center of the gospel is.  I’ve just about lost my patience for Glenn Beck, but he brings up the interesting subject of social justice.  Beck suggests people should leave churches that place a heavy emphasis on social and economic justice.  Rev. Jim Wallis, CEO of Sojourners, responded to Beck not simply by saying that social justice is important, but that it is indeed at the heart of the gospel.  It is quite surreal to see a social gospel advocate tell a Mormon he has perverted the gospel.

Christ the Center treated the subject a while back with Rick Phillips.

I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naïve. (Romans 16:17-18)
