The Bronze Serpent and Christ

Nick Batzig has posted thoughts about the bronze serpent over at Feeding on Christ.  As many of our readers no doubt know, Numbers is an incredibly rich book.  The redemptive-historical themes are stunning and I’m convinced the book deserves more attention.  I was able to exhort from Numbers 14 this summer and was given the opportunity to meditate on one portion of the book for an entire week.  Certainly, there are passages of Numbers which would try the congregation’s (and the preacher’s) patience, but many of these could be grouped together into one or two sermons.  Unfortunately, Numbers is entirely neglected because of these sections of lists.  Nick’s post is an opportunity for me to encourage preachers to look into preaching Numbers and for all of God’s people to see the greatness of our salvation through Christ in all of Scripture.

Indeed, Camden !! I will give it some thought. I would like to find out what commentaries you/others found most helpful.

I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naïve. (Romans 16:17-18)
